Athletes Are Allies

Image
Even after abolishing slavery and making separation of skin color illegal, countless people of color (POC) still experience racial injustice. Numerous POC feel alone in their situations and that nobody will listen. However, they are wrong because not only do other POC understand, but there are also innumerable allies ready to fight against racism. Allies aren’t just fighting for justice , but they are also attempting to help racists see that the world is not just black and white.  The text says, “ For us to truly engage in the fight against racial injustice, we must ensure that we listen to the voices of people of color and help amplify them to the broader community,” (W BALL). To be an ally who truly creates an impact, listening to POC and spreading awareness is essential.  However, “normal” people are not the only ones fighting for a change. Plenty of athletes are also allies in the movement to fight against racial injustice!  Click here  Not only is this wo...

Which Brain is Dominating Sports?

Image
In the modern world we are surrounded by left brain dominant people. In almost every successful job our left brain is necessary. This is due to the fact that the left brain is responsible for controlling our logic, analytical thinking, and sequence. Like the passage states, “Until recently, the abilities that led to success in school, work, and business were characteristic of the left hemisphere. They were the sorts of linear, logical, analytical talents measured by SATs and deployed by CPAs,” (Pink). However, while we were working the left brains fingers to the bone we didn’t realize we forgot our right brain!     The article says, “ The right hemisphere, meanwhile, takes care of context, emotional expression, and synthesis,” (Pink). I’m sure most would assume that playing a sport would be a right brain oriented activity, however those people are incorrect. Playing a sport is one of the best activities one could do to exercise both parts of their brain! Click here...

A Problem Solving Athlete

Good problem solvers aren't just naturally smart or excel through school because they were born with some gift. Good problem solvers have many self earned skills that are very helpful to themselves. The text states, "Good problem solvers have a sense of deliberateness. They think before they act." Many think that people of intelligence (or good problem solvers) should be able to solve a problem at the speed of light , but this is not the case. The passage says, "Good problem solvers stick to a task until it is completed. They don't give up easily." Just like a good problem solver athletes must be persistent in their sport, in order to become better. Another point in the text I woul...

The Sport Related Accident

In fact, statistics show that there is a percentage of over 90% of athletes who get injured while playing a sport, overall.  click here   Although, very rare it is possible to die from a sports related injury! The leading cause of death from sport injuries is brain damage. When Hans was young and fighting for his country he had a brief encounter with Death... The text says, "Six men burned by cigarettes. Two broken hand...

A Passion For Sports and Music

Image
Playing a sport provides a person with passion and a certain happiness.  click here  However, playing an instrument or being involved with music can also provide you with just as much joy and gaiety.  Both activities bestow an individual with an interest and/or hobby.  A hobby can be a very important thing for a human being because hobbies give a specific happiness and passion, that almost nothing else can give them. Playing a sport or instrument (unprofessionally) is a hobby many people pursue, mainly because that's what gives them merriment, but you do not have to be physically involved with these activities for it to bring you joy. A multitude of people watch sport games and listen to music and they still get the same amount of joy, as the musicians and sport players. Activities like these are like magnets  because they constantly pull people together.     For Liesel both sports and music were very prominent in her childhood. Soccer very much p...
